Heart Disease Remedies - Red Wine Is Good for Heart Health

According to studies, drinking moderate amounts of red wine reduces the risk of heart disease in the middle aged group by up to fifty percent. The studies also revealed that it is perhaps the resveratrol in red wine that is responsible for its protective effects on human health.

Red wine contains a rich source of a large number of antioxidants, namely the phenolic acids and polyphenols, which provide it with its protective oxidation reduction potential thereby reducing heart disease risk.

Red wine lowers the cholesterol level in our body by changing our blood lipid levels. It prevents blood clots by making it very difficult for the blood to clump up in our blood vessels. But if clots are already formed, red wine may even help to dissolve them and thereby preventing our risk for stroke. Drunk in moderation, it can lower blood pressure, as well as insulin levels.

Moderate consumption of red wine has also been shown to retard or slow the blood clearance of high density lipoproteins (HDL cholesterol), a positive factor in lowering the risk of development of cardiovascular disease. It is also indicated that red wine inhibits LDL cholesterol oxidation more efficiently than white wine and at much lower concentrations.

Although one glass of red wine a day may well be good for your heart, drinking more than this seems to promote plaque build-up in blood vessels, suggest the findings from a study of over 4,000 older adults.
