Home remedies - using basil leaves for Common Cold, Headache, Cough with Phlegm, and Indigestion

Basil is a culinary herb prominently featured in Italian cuisine, and also plays a major role in the Southeast Asian food. Basil used in Italian food is typically called sweet basil, as opposed to Thai basil, lemon basil and holy basil, which are used in Asia.

Basil is traditionally used for supplementary treatment of stress, asthma and diabetes in India. Basil has been used to treat intestinal parasites, acne, and stimulates the immune system. Basil oil is reported that it has potent antioxidant, anti-cancer, antiviral, and anti-microbial properties.

Drinking basil tea twice a day is an excellent home remedy for Common Cold, Headache, Cough with Phlegm, and Indigestion. Basil removes phlegm in chest, relieves most of the headaches, cures common cold problems and Indigestion. It is easy to make a basil tea: Drop some basil leaves in the water, boil it for 10 minutes. You may add ginger to the basil tea if you feel cold.

Warnings: Tests have shown that basil may contain a chemical that has caused liver tumors in mice. The rodent experiments indicate that it would take 100–1000 times the normal anticipated exposure to become a cancer risk.
