What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD is a common diagnosed psychiatric disorder. The symptoms of ADHD include: poor attention, trouble concentrating, excessive interrupting, and uncontrollable. Children with ADHD are impulsive, overactive, inattentive, aggressive, disruptive, and some of them have learning disabilities. Scientists believe that this physiological brain disorder is commonly due to a coordination failure in the reticular activating system of the brain.

How to treat ADHD?

Natural cures and remedies can help improve symptoms of ADHD.

Try to avoid sugar. Scientific studies have shown that, sugar, especially refined, processed sugars and carbohydrates can have an effect on a child’s activity level. Sugar consumption blunts the brain’s ability to respond to norepinephrine, thus impairing brain coordination. When blood sugar spikes, they can produce a rapid increase in blood glucose levels, it may cause a child to become much more active due to an adrenaline rush produced by the rise in blood glucose.

Try to avoid artificial colorings, flavorings, and preservatives. These chemicals only make the foods and drinks “look nice”, “taste good” and “keep longer”, but have nothing to do with nutrition. Keep eating/drinking these chemicals, day after day, year after year, will not help but may only hurt your health, especially for children. Research found that up to 90% of all children with ADHD are allergic to red, yellow, and blue dyes found in food products.

Try to avoid soft drinks. Soft drinks contain phosphates which displaces calcium/magnesium levels. Calcium and/or Magnesium deficiencies are very common causes of ADHD. It causes excessive muscle activity.

The following natural supplements are often used for ADHD:

Ginkgo Biloba. Ginkgo Biloba helps blood flow to brain, is beneficial on a persons capability to focus.

German chamomile. In traditional medicine, German chamomile has been used to soothe nervous stress and ease feelings of anxiety.

Rooibos. Rooibos contains many minerals and nutrients which benefit the mind and nervous system.

Zinc. Scientific studies have shown a reduction in hyperactivity and impulsivity with zinc supplementation.

Fish Oil. Fish oil contains omega 3 fatty acids. Fish oil omega 3 fatty acids can help improve ADHD symptoms. Studies found that, fish oil supplementation may improve mental skills of children with ADHD who are 8 to 12 years old.
