Aromatherapy is effective to treat asthma. There are many essential oils that can be used for relieve asthma. You can find these herbal essential oils in health supplement stores or grocery stores. The following are seven essential oils that can help treat asthma:

Eucalyptus oil (Nilgiri oil)

Peppermint oil

Lavender oil

Clove oil

Frankincense oil

Atlas cedarwood oil

Cinnamon oil

How to use essential oils for asthma? You can use one of the following methods:

1. Rub the essential oil on the area between nose and mouth, or on chest, and inhale it.

2. Put the essential oil on a paper towel, or a piece of cotton (cloth), and take in deep breaths of it. Or you can lay it by the bed to inhale while sleeping.

3. Using a vaporizer in the bedroom with a few drops of essential oil. It will aid sleep.

4. Put 1 cup of water in a pot or pan, and put it on the stove. Add 3 drops essential oil, and heat it to a boil. Place your face over the steam and breathe in the steam.

5. Put 1 quart water in a pot or pan, add 10 drops essential oil, and heat it to a boil. Leave it until all the water is gone. The volatile oil will saturate the room air. Stay in the room and take in deep breaths of it.

6. Mix essential oil into the hot water of bath tub, and take hot bath.

Aromatherapy opens airways, relaxes lung spasms and at least relieve the symptoms of asthma. You can take the therapy 3 times a day.

Please note: When using steam therapy, be careful, don’t burn your face. And be sure to keep your eyes closed while steaming.
