Herbal Remedies for Atherosclerosis (Arteriosclerosis): Capsicum, Parsley, Beet, Hawthorn & Fenugreek

Millions of people are suffering from the disease commonly called hardening of the arteries - Arteriosclerosis (Atherosclerosis). This is a condition where the walls of the artery become thicker or hard. This condition can lead to blockage of the arteries, and cause high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke.

There are many herbal remedies that you can use to keep this condition under control. The following are 9 herbal remedies for atherosclerosis Treatment:

1. Capsicum. Capsicum is a genus of the plants used as spices, vegetables, and medicines. The fruit of Capsicum plants are commonly called chilli pepper, red or green pepper, sweet pepper, or bell pepper. As a rich source of vitamin C, capsicum is one of the useful arteriosclerosis remedy. Capsicum is helpful in purifying circulatory system by strengthening the pulse rate, and regulating the heart and blood pressure. To lower the cholesterol level of bloodstream and treat arteriosclerosis, you can eat a raw capsicum in your salad.

2. Parsley. Parsley is an effective natural home remedy used in the treatment of arteriosclerosis. It contains elements which help to maintain the blood vessels, particularly the capillaries and arterial system in a healthy condition. You can take blanch parsley in a cup of water, or in beverages.

3. Beet. Beet has also proved valuable in arteriosclerosis. It is an excellent solvent for inorganic calcium deposit. You can take the root of beet and boil it in water, then eat it after mashing, and drink the beet juice.

4. Hawthorn. Hawthorn contains rutin and quercetin. The antioxidant properties of hawthorn protect against the formation of plaques and may help lower high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Hence hawthorn can regulate blood pressure, make the heart stronger, and treat atherosclerosis.

5. Fenugreek. Studies have shown that patients who consumed about 3/4 cup of fenugreek daily for 20 days cut their LDL (bad cholesterol) levels by 33%. You can eat ground fenugreek seeds, or take fenugreek in supplemental form (capsules), which are available at health supplement stores.

6. Psyllium (Isphagula). Multiple double-blind trials have shown that psyllium helps patients with Atherosclerosis by reducing bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels as well as blood sugar in the blood. As a digestive herb native to India, psyllium contains 50% linoleic acid which helps in treating or preventing arteriosclerosis. You can take Psyllium in supplemental form daily. You can use the oil extracted from the seeds of plant. The oil contains linoleic acid and unsaturated fat. Use of psyllium (isphagula) oil is a valuable natural remdy for the disease.

7. Ginkgo. Ginkgo may reduce the risk of atherosclerosis by improving blood circulation. It’s been widely proved that ginkgo biloba has remarkable effects on circulatory system in reducing the blood pressure. And researchers believe that ginkgo might be also beneficial for treating cardiovascular diseases. They believe that ginkgo might help improve heart blood flow to help prevent heart disease.

8. Horny Goat Weed. Horny goat weed has been used in China for centuries. According to traditional Chinese medicine practice, horny goat weed is mainly used as a medicine to treat men’s problems, such as erectile dysfunction problems. It has the similar effects as Viagra. But Chinese doctors also use horny goat weed to treat cardiovascular disease, including hardening of the arteries, and strokes.

9. Guggul. Guggul is a flowering plant. The resin of the guggul plant, known as gum guggulu, has a fragrance similar to myrrh. It is a key component in traditional Indian medicine. Guggul may lower cholesterol, and improving blood circulation.
