Herbal remedies – Ginseng, Astragalus & Dong Quai – can be used for hair loss. There are a wide variety of factors that cause hair loss, including weakness in heart and lungs, or lack of blood.

Hair loss due to weakness of Qi

If you have hair loss problem with the symptoms of short breaths, cold limbs, tiredness, lack of energy, it is likely that you lack Qi (life force, or vital energy). Due to the weakness, your Qi cannot go too far and reach the far ends of your body – your fingers, toes and hairs. That’s why you have cold limbs and lose hairs. In this case, to treat hair loss, you should treat your weakness first. As long as you get recovered from the weakness, your hair loss symptoms will be improved. To increase your Qi, you can take Ginseng, and Astragalus (Huang Qi).

Hair loss due to lack of blood

Surgery, childbirth, menstruation problem, or chronic diseases, all can cause blood loss, therefor, cause hair loss. Due to the condition that there is no enough blood in your body, the first priority is to maintain the functions of the vital organs, that means the far ends of your body – fingers, toes and hairs get less blood supply. If this is the case, you can take some “blood-generating” remedies, like Dong Quai (Dang Gui, Angelica), to improve the deficiency of blood.
