Anemia can be treated by using Dong Quai (Angelica, Dang Gui) & Huang Qi (Astragalus). This is a well known decoction in traditional Chinese Medicine, and has been used for centuries. The decoction is named “Dang Gui Bu Xue Tang” which means “Dang Gui blood-tonifying decoction”.

Dong Quai (Dang Gui)is a very effective blood tonic. Huang Qi tonifies lung, spleen and liver. It raises lung qi (life force), protects liver, increase energy, and strengthen digestion. The combination of Dong Quai and Huang Qi, reinforces the blood tonifying action. It is commonly used as a tonic for blood deficiency and bleeding, and treat anemia, allergic purpura, thrombocytopenic purpura, functional uterine bleeding, leukopenia and neurasthenia.

How to make Dang Gui Bu Xue Tang:

1. Add Huang Qi 30g, Dang Gui 6g and 2 cups of water to a pot.
2. Bring to the boil, and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
3. Strain while still hot.
4. Keep the strained herbs in the pot, and add 3 cups of water.
5. Bring to the boil again, and simmer for 20 minutes.
6. Strain and mix the two extracts in a clean container. Store in the fridge.

Drink the decoction within a day in equal portions.
