Si Wu Tang 四物湯 is a Chinese herb formula for treating anemia (blood deficiency) and irregular menstruation. Si Wu Tang is the most popular and very effective gynecology medicine that has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for tonifying the blood and regulating menstruation.

Si Wu Tang literally means Four-Substance Decoction in Chinese. It contains four herbs:

Angelicae Sinensis, Dang gui 当归
Chuanxiong, Chuan xiong 川芎
Paeoniae Alba, Bai shao 白芍
Rehmanniae Preparata, Shu di huang 熟地黄

Si Wu Tang is effective to the following symptoms: Amenorrhea; Anemia; Blurred vision; Dizziness; Dysmenorrhea; Irregular menstruation; Pain of the lower abdomen; Periumbilical pain; Postpartum weakness; Threatened miscarriage.

Si Wu Tang is the foundation formula in TCM for blood deficiency. Most other formulas for tonifying the blood and regulating menstruation come from this basic formula.

In the herbal supplement market, Si Wu Tang is sold in tablets or capsules under name “Si Wu Wan” or “Si Wu Tang Wan”.
