Kiwifruit (Actinidia chinensis) can be used for help to treat indigestion, loss of appetite, nausea, polydipsia (excessive thirst), fever, vomiting, diarrhea, jaundice and urolithiasis (urinary tract stones).

Kiwifruit Is a Cooling Fruit

Kiwifruit (also known as Chinese gooseberry, 猕猴桃) is a sour, sweet and cooling fruit, native to southern China. Today, kiwi is widely used as food, meat tenderizer and basis of a drink.

Kiwifruit is a delicious fruit that contains flavonoids, minerals and vital vitamins such as vitamin C. The fruit contains the highest proportion of ascorbic acid. The contribution of ascorbic acid to total antioxidant power was 73% for kiwifruit compared with 54%, 46%, and 40% for grapefruit, lemon, and orange, respectively. A kiwi contains about 100 mg vitamin C.

Carotenoids can significantly reduce risk for age-related macular degeneration. In a study comparing the carotenoid contents of a range of foods, kiwifruit has a higher proportion of lutein plus zeaxanthin (the major carotenoids in the human eye) than spinach (54 and 47 mole%, respectively). Kiwi only ranked lower than egg yolk and corn (89 and 86 mole%, respectively) in the tested products.

According to traditional Chinese food and medicine guidelines, kiwifruit has the effects of regulating Qi (energy flow), generating fluids, relieving dryness, reducing excessive internal heat and calming nerves.
