Pippali (Long pepper, Piper longum, Bi Ba, 荜茇) is an Ayurvedic herb that is also used in traditional Chinese medicine for treating headache, migraine, toothache, dental caries, nasal congestion and runny nose (Rhinorrhea).

1. For treating headache and migraine

- Apply pippali powder to the nasal cavities.

2. For treating toothache and dental caries

- Apply pippali powder to the cavity and to the gums around the tooth.

3. For treating nasal congestion and runny nose

- Apply pippali powder to the nasal cavities.

To treat the above disorders, pippali can be also combined with asarum sieboldii, rhizoma cimicifugae, angelica dahuriea, and black pepper to make a decoction for internal use.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, pippali has warming and downwarding properties. It descends the uprising fire and Qi (life force) flow and dispel the phlegm. Thus it can treat headache, migraine, toothache and nasal congestion if they are caused by the uprising fire and phlegm.
