How to use Pippali for treating headache, migraine, toothache, dental caries, nasal congestion and runny nose?

Pippali (Long pepper, Piper longum, Bi Ba, 荜茇) is an Ayurvedic herb that is also used in traditional Chinese medicine. It can be used for treating headache, migraine, toothache, dental caries, nasal congestion and runny nose (Rhinorrhea).

1. How to use Pippali for headache and migraine

– Ground dried pippali into a fine powder;
– Apply the powder to the nasal cavities.

2. How to use Pippali for treating toothache and dental caries

– Use dried pippali to make a fine powder;
– Apply the powder to the cavity and to the gums around the tooth.

3. How to use Pippali for treating nasal congestion and runny nose

– Take some pippali powder;
– Apply it to the nasal cavities.

4. How to use Pippali internally

– To treat the above disorders, pippali can be also combined with asarum sieboldii, rhizoma cimicifugae, angelica dahuriea, and black pepper to make a decoction. This internal use can help treat the above ailments.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, pippali has warming and downwarding properties. It descends the uprising fire and Qi (life force) flow and dispel the phlegm. Thus it can treat headache, migraine, toothache and nasal congestion if they are caused by the uprising fire and phlegm.
