If you are in China, you can go to a traditional Chinese medical hospital to take a treatment from TCM. As the origin of traditional Chinese medicine, TCM is officially supported in China. There are always many traditional Chinese medical hospitals in a middle or big city, or there is a TCM department or several TCM doctors in a hospital in a small city or town.

But if you are in the United States or in other Western countries, where there are no certification, regulation or licensure requirements for TCM practitioners. Though in some countries or some states/provinces, there are regulation or licensure requirements on TCM, but some practitioners are just good English speakers who can easily pass the examination after 1-2 year crash course training. Sure, there are many good ones in these countries, but the issue is where to find them?TCM: Chinese medical doctor

Please note, like anything else, you may find both good and really bad practitioners in TCM, and often, the worst ones are the best at selling themselves and advertising. Do not choose a TCM doctor just by advertisement or by how good is his English.

You may find a TCM doctor that is recommended by a friend or a relative who was healed after he/she visited the doctor.

Another tip about where to find a TCM doctor is: go to Chinatown. There are always a fair amount of Chinese herbal stores in a Chinatown. Some of these herbal stores have their in-store TCM practitioners. Herbal medicine stores offering in-store TCM practitioners is a traditional clinic model. In my personal experience, the practitioners in a long-history store should be “Okay” (if not be the best, at least not be the worst). The reason is that a store does not want to ruin its reputation. A fake (or bad) traditional doctor may often change his locations or rely on heavy advertisement. But this tactic does not work for a long-history store.
