According to traditional Chinese medical theory, liver disease is often associated with “windy” symptoms, such as shaking, restless, itching, drying, nervous, dizziness, dysphoria, convulsions, tinnitus, delirium, and anxiety. By nature, wind is a moving flow of air. wind moves, shakes and dries up objects. It is restless. Wind or flow of air can be enhanced when temperature rises. Wind can be slowed down by objects, such as water.

In human body, it is the same. The “windy” symptoms in human body are caused by internal wind which is related to liver diseases. The internal wind in the channels of the body can be enhanced by fire (internal heat) but can be inhibited and slowed down by fluid (water, blood).

According to a treatment rule of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), to treat wind, one should first treat blood. Because blood deficiency is the cause of the wind. Once blood deficiency is cured, the “windy” symptoms (caused by the internal wind) will be naturally disappeared.

So the formula of Danggui Longhui Wan uses angelica (dang gui) to generate blood for inhibiting internal wind, and uses aloe vera and other cooling herbs to reduce internal heat (fire) in live and gallbladder.

Please note, due to the cooling effects, Danggui Longhui Wan should not be used for patients without liver and gallbladder fire, nor for ones with weak stomach and spleen, nor for ones with underlying weakness.
