Essiac is a herbal formula that is used as an alternative cure for cancer treatment.
Essiac is an ancient herbal formula is being recognized by many worldwide. is originally used by Native American tribal – Canadian Ojibway Indians. In 1922, a Canadian nurse, Rene Caisse got this herbal formula from a woman who cured her breast cancer with this Native American remedy. Miss Caisse named her version of the formula “Essiac” (her last name “Caisse” spelled backwards), and use it to help people suffering with cancer. Miss Caisse ran her clinic from 1934 to 1942. She never took money from her patients for her care.
Formula of Essiac
The basic formula of Essiac contains four herbs:
– Greater burdock root (Arctium lappa);
– Slippery elm inner bark (Ulmus rubra, Ulmus fulva);
– Sheep sorrel (Rumex acetosella);
– Indian rhubarb root (Turkish rhubarb root, Rheum officinale).
Today, there are dozens of different versions of Essiac sold in the market as supplement in forms of tea, capsule, powder, and liquid. You can find it in a local herbal supplement store or online health food stores.
Is Essiac really effective in treating cancer? the U.S. National Institutes of Health’s Medline states that in 2008:
“Currently, there is not enough evidence to recommend FOR or AGAINST the use of this herbal mixture as a therapy for any type of cancer”. “Numerous individual patient testimonials and reports from manufacturers are available on the Internet, although these cannot be considered scientifically viable as evidence”.
Please note, individuals suffering with cancer are advised to consult their doctors for their treatment. They should not delay treatment with more proven therapies. Essiac cured some people’s cancer, but it is not effective for every cancer patient. So Essiac should be considered as an alternative cure when there is no “more proven therapies” or after doctors did their best and no more left to try.
