Almond is one of wonderful remedies for treatment of cough, asthma and bronchitis.

Why almond can be used to treat cough, asthma and bronchitis? According to the traditional medical theory and medicine guidelines, there is a somewhat connection between lung and large intestine. And almond works on lung and large intestine. Almond has a “guiding” properties in downward direction. Almond can lead (guide) “Qi” and fluid from lung down to large intestine. So when you have cough, asthma, emphysema, bronchiectasis, chronic bronchitis, dyspnea, using almond can relieve the symptoms.

Please note: due to the properties of moving Qi and fluid out of lung, for some patients who suffer from dry cough, or the cough, asthma is caused by lung weakness, almond should not be used.

How to use almond, to lead Qi down, as a treatment for cough, but avoid dry cough (water-loss in lungs)? One solution is that, you can add honey, because honey has properties to moisturize lungs and respiratory system.

If the cough is caused by lung weakness, you should use ginseng and/or astragalus (Huang Qi) to stimulate lung function, lead Qi up to lung, instead of using almond to lead Qi down out of lung.

If you have constipation, it can be used to treat the problem as well. Actually, honey also has properties to moisturize large intestine. So almond with honey can be also used for treating constipation.

According to the traditional medical theory and medicine guidelines, constipation can be caused by lung weakness. If this is the case, then you should also use ginseng and/or astragalus (Huang Qi) to stimulate lung function, lead Qi up to lung, instead of using almond to lead Qi down out of lung. For many seniors who suffer from constipation due to aging and weak lung function, using almond, honey, or banana may temporarily relieve the symptoms, but in a long run, it will weaken the lung function and make the condition of constipation worse and more frequently.
