Recipes of Foot Bath Therapy for Menstrual Pain

Recipe 1:

– Cat-Tail Pollen (pu huang) 20g;
– Cyperus Rotundus 20g;
– Corydalis Tuber 20g;
– Angelica (dang gui) 20g;
– Red Peony Root (chi shao) 15g;
– Peach Kernel 10g;
– Myrrh 10g.

Recipe 2:

– Fresh ginger 5-8 slices (cut into small pieces, or dried ginger powder 20g).

Recipe 3:

– Select 1-3 essential oils in the following: sage, rosemary, rose, lemon balm, mint, fennel, geranium, marjoram, juniper, myrrh, chamomile, cypress and lavender.

How to Do Foot Bath Therapy at Home

You can do foot bath therapy at home. Here is how to do it:

– Use a wash pan, basin or bucket for the foot bath therapy.
– Boil the herbs in a cup of water for 10-15 minutes to make a decoction.
– Add hot water into the basin, and test the temperature with your finger, if too hot, then add some cold water.
– Pour the decoction into the hot water in the basin.
– Move the basin close to the sofa, sit back and relax while watching TV or listening soft and light music.
– Soak your feet in the water for the foot bath therapy for 20-40 minutes.

Please note, If you use essential oils, no need to boil them, just drop 8-10 drops into the hot water.

To save your time, you can triple the amount of the herbs and boil them in 3 cups of water for 3 days’ use. And use 1/3 of the decotion per day.

It is recommended to do the foot bath therapy before going to bed. You should start taking this therapy 3 days before period. And it should be taken continuously for 3 days. You will see improvement after 3 periods.

The herbs, such as angelica, red peony root, peach kernel, myrrh and ginger, have warming, pungent and blood-moving properties, they warm your feet and legs, promote blood circulation, dispel the coldness in your lower body and relieve the pain. The essencial oils, such as rose, mint and chamomile help open channels of the body and relieve the pain as well.
