Lung diseases, such as lung scarring, pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), pulmonary fibrosis, shortness of breath, dry coughs and chest pain can be treated with a Chinese herbal medicine – Bai He Gu Jin Tang.

Bai He Gu Jin Tang (百合固金汤, Baihe Gujin Decoction) is a famous Chinese classic herbal formula that has been used for centuries in China to treat lung disorders caused by Yin (fluid) deficiency of lungs and lung fire (over-heated).

According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), lung scarring, pulmonary tuberculosis, pulmonary fibrosis and the related symptoms, such as shortness of breath, dry coughs, bloody coughs and chest pain, indicate dryness and fluid deficiency of lungs. When lungs are in drying condition, there is no enough fluids in lungs to cool down the organs and thus you can see drying and over-heated symptoms. To treat these symptoms, TCM uses herbal formula that has moisturizing properties to increase fluids in lungs. Once the lungs have well supplied fluids, the drying and over-heated (“fire”) symptoms will be relieved.

TCM believes that scars or spots in the lungs, pulmonary fibrosis are like a dry land without water. Bringing the fluids back and nourishing it with well supplied fluids, the dry land will turn to green.

While modern medical science tries to find a drug that can kill the bacteria for treating a disease, traditional medical systems believe that a disease can be cured by restoring the balance of the body. These are two different approaches to treating a disease. Sometimes, a traditional solution is more effective than the modern one, though not always.

Bai He Gu Jin Tang is sold in form of pills under the name Bai He Gu Jin Wan,(百合固金丸) in Chinese herbal medicine stores.

Please note, Bai He Gu Jin Tang is not suitable to a person with other lung diseases, nor to cough with excessive and thick phlegm. You should check with your doctor before taking this remedy.
