Ejiao (Donkey-hide gelatin, 阿胶) is gelatin obtained from the skin of the donkey. It is a blood tonic in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

Ejiao is used in TCM for treating bleeding, such as hematemesis, hemoptysis, hemafecia, hematuria, metrostaxis, metrorrhagia, etc. Ejiao has effects to stop internal bleeding.

Ejiao has nourishing and moisturizing properties. It is used to treat anemia, blood deficiency and dryness in lungs. For a person with disorders such as dry cough, insomnia and dizziness due to blood deficiency, dryness or pulmonary tuberculosis, ejiao is often used to relieve the symptoms by tonifying blood and moistening lungs.

To treat dry lungs and dry coughs, combine ejiao with almond, rock sugar and other moisturizing herbs.
