Bladder and urinary tract infection, or cystitis is often seen in women. There are six natural remedies that can help treat the symptoms: plantago, vitamin C, cinnamon, cumin, turmeric and water.

Plantago (commonly called plantain). This is a common weed that you may find in your backyard. Plantago is astringent, anti-toxic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-histamine, and a strong diuretic. Decoction made from plantain can reduce inflammation in bladder and urinary tract and increase urine output. Here is a recipe of how to use plantago for the treatment of bladder and urinary tract infection:

– 1 handful of fresh plantago
– 2 cups of water
– Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes
– Drink it, twice a day

Vitamin C. It is said that, vitamin C helps treat bladder and urinary tract infection because vitamin C increases the acidity and fight against the bacteria in the bladder. Orange and lemon are rich in Vitamin C. Having a orange per day or drinking lemon juice can help treat bladder and urinary tract infection.

Cinnamon, cumin and turmeric. If you have bladder/urinary tract infection or cystitis with the symptoms of coldness in lower abdomen, you may take some warming herbs that target lower body. Cinnamon, cumin and turmeric have the effects to warm kidneys, bladder and lower abdomen, thus help relieve the symptoms. Please note, not all hot warming herbs can help treat bladder infection (Cystitis). Though chili pepper and fresh ginger are warming herbs too, but they only target upper body. They should be avoided. Please note that, if you have “hot” symptoms in lower body, you should not use cinnamon, cumin and turmeric.

Water. It is said that drinking much water to flush your bladder/urinary tract can help reduce the infection. This is similar to use water as a coolant to cool down an overheated machine.

Please note, if your infection is severe, you should visit your doctor immediately. And even your symptoms are not severe, you should also consult your doctor before taking a remedy for the treatment.
