Menstrual problems can affect a woman’s life. When suffering from the problems, some women feel pain, bloat, backache, leg aches, headaches, zits, cramps, tired to breathe, heavy bleeding, and mood swings. These female problems of menstrual cramps, heavy or light periods, and premenstrual syndrome (PMS) can make a woman uncomfortable for several days of a month.

What factors make the problems more likely?

Well, if your mother, or sisters have menstrual problems, you likely have the same problems due to your family history of problems. If you are overweight or underweight, with amenorrhea, or take some treatment (some drugs, chemotherapy or radiation), you may also have these problems.

What home remedies can relieve menstrual problems?

If you suffer from menstrual cramp and period pain, you may use the following home remedies.

1. Use herbal remedies – basil, cinnamon or ginger. Basil can relieve some of the normal pain associated with menstruation because it contains caffeic acid, which has an analgesic, or pain-killing effect. Cinnamon has anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties that relieve cramps. Ginger also is a cramp reliever. You can use basil, cinnamon or ginger as a spice in food – meat, soup or vegetables. Or you can make a tea/drink:

Put 4 cups of water
add a handful of basil leaves, or 4 cinnamon sticks, or 4 pieces of sliced ginger
with 2 tablespoons of brown sugar,
boil them for 20 minutes,
and drink 1 cup for painful menstruation

2. Eat a spicy food. It can also relieve menstrual cramp and pain.

3. Stay warm. For example, wear warm clothes, or use hot water to massage your lower back or abdomen, or place a heating pad, hot water bottle, or hot towel on your lower back or abdomen, or take a warm bath. These can provide some relief.
