Trikatu is an Ayurvedic herbal formula that can be used to treat indigestion, dyspepsia, flatulence and loss of appetite, and restore Kapha and Pitta Balance.

According to Ayurveda, Trikatu reduces Kapha (water and earth) and increases pitta (fire) in digestive system. It has warming properties and removes cold, congestion, reviving weak functions of gastric system.

Trikatu Contains Three Herbs

Trikatu is made up of the three herbs in equal amounts:

– Pippali (Indian Long pepper);
– Maricha (Black pepper);
– Sunthi (Ginger).

Trikatu is a natural digestive stimulant. It is antiflatulent and effective in dyspepsia. It provides heat to warm digestion and circulation, promote the secretion of digestive juices, increase appetite, and reduce gastric mucosa. Thus it is used internally in the treatment of gastric and abdominal disorders.

How to use Trikatu? You can take it with ghee and sugar:

– Take 1/2 teaspoon of Trikatu powder
– Mix it with 1/2 teaspoon of ghee and 1/2 teaspoon of jaggery
– Consume it with a cup of warm water or milk
– Two times a day after food

Trikatu is available in the forms of powder and capsules. You may find it at a local health supplement store or an Indian grocery store.

Precautions of Using Trikatu

Please note, individuals having hyperacidity and peptic ulcer are not recommended to take Trikatu.

Indigestion, dyspepsia and flatulence can be caused by different diseases. Please keep in mind that, if these disorders are associated with coldness and mucus (phlegm), then Trikatu may help relieve the symptoms. Because Trikatu reduces Kapha (water and earth). But if the disorders are associated with thirst, fever, hotness and dryness, then you should not use it. Because Trikatu increases pitta (fire).

Taking Trikatu after food can reduce the side effects of the hot spicies. The dosage for a child should be reduced to 1/2 or 1/4 of the above adult dosage. The amount of ghee and jaggery can also be adjusted depending on the condition and age.
