Cherry is said to help relieve gout. Cherries are considered as a home remedy in effectively treating gout. Eating cherries is said to be a simple and effective way to prevent gout attacks.

Cherries or cherry juice are claimed to be a highly effective treatment for gout. It is recommended to consuming about 15-20 fresh cherries a day in season. Though dried cherries work but the canned ones seem to work better and faster.

Some people believe that cherries work as a pain reliever, like aspirin, that may help artheritis, sore joints, carpal tunnel and gout.

Why cherries are effective in treating gout? Some scientists believe that the reason is cherries contain a sub class of flavonoids called anthocyanidins that can block pain. Actually, aspirin, ibuprofen and other NSAIDs contain the same anthocyanidins, so cherries have similar effects as NSAIDs.

The anthocyanidins in cherries also reduce levels of uric acid. The anthocyanidins inhibit xanthine oxidase, an enzyme involved in the production of uric acid. So the body has less uric acid.

Whether cherries are an effective treatment for gout for everyone is an open question. Some studies have reported promising results, but some patients who tried this remedy aren’t sure or don’t think so.

Anyway, cherry is a fruit. Cherries have not been found to cause side effects. It won’t hurt to try it out. You may eat cherries a week, and see if it works or not. If no improvement is seen, then stop using it. No remedy works for everyone, and maybe this one works for you. Who knows?
