Terminalia Chebula (Haritaki) in Ayurvedic Medicine is used to treat indigestion, flatulence, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, dysentery, and rectal prolapse.

According to Ayurveda, fruit of Haritaki is mild laxative and stomachic. It can increase the appetite, relieve vomiting. Haritaki has proven gastrokinetic effect. It helps in digestion, and in moving the contents of stomach. Haritaki can smoothly relieve flatulence – excessive gas in intestine.

Terminalia Chebula (Haritaki) has been used in chronic diarrhea, such as protracted diarrhea with hematochezia, and dysentery.

As an astringent herb, haritaki, also has effects to treat rectal prolapse.
