Pomegranate is used in folk Chinese remedies as an astringent to treat chronic diarrhea and dysentery, hematochezia, uterine bleeding and other symptoms. Pomegranate, according to traditional Chinese medicine, is a warming, sweet and sour fruit, the rind of the fruit has effects on lung, kidney and large intestine. As an astringent, it has effects of relieving thirst, stopping diarrhea and bleedings. The following are some of folk Chinese remedies of pomegranate:

1. Place a cast iron pan on the stove, put the rind of pomegranate on it, heat it until the rind becomes almost black. Then make it into powder. Take the powder 6 grams, twice a day. This remedy is effective for diarrhea and dysentery. It can also be externally used for treating mouth ulcers and various ulcer bleedings.

2. Use pomegranate peel and brown sugar to make a decoction, drink it twice a day. This remedy can treat bleeding dysentery, hematuria and nose bleeding.

3. Cook pomegranate peel in boiling water for 20 minutes, then add honey. Drink it twice a day. This remedy can cure vaginal bleeding.

4. Use pomegranate peel 15 grams and cumin 10 grams to make a decoction, drink it twice a day. This remedy treats chronic dysentery.

Please note: pomegranate is an astringent, if you have constipation, you should not use it. For some people, pomegranate may interact with tomato, watermelon and potato, so they should avoid eating them together.
